Merino Storm is soft with the perfect amount of twist for a soft & balanced yarn with nice stitch definition and moderate drape. The fiber has a hint of halo and beautiful luster. It is great for DK weight projects but would also work as a light worsted for a looser fabric.
Merino is a very old sheep breed and one of the most widespread and recognized. It originated in Spain around the early 12th century. As the breed spread to other parts of the world they were adapted to their new climates and uses, creating the many different types of Merino we see today. There is a reason Merino has become so popular, it is very soft with a micron count that averages 20-22 and high crimp meaning it has excellent thermal properties, can be used to spin very fine yarns, and it is bouncy and elastic. The superwash treatment strips the scales off the fibers which prevents them from locking together (felting) but it also adds drape to the finished fabric.
