Targhee Torrent has next-to-skin softness, crisp stitch definition, and a light and lofty quality with very little drape. It’s spun from untreated, US sourced wool and the fiber is bouncy with a matte finish. Perfect for worsted weight projects but the adaptable gauge also works up nicely as a DK for more dense fabric.
Targhee is a relatively young breed. They were developed at the US Sheep Experiment Station in Dubois, Idaho in the early 1900s by breeding a mix of Rambouillet, Corriedale, and Lincoln. The new breed was named after the Targhee National Forest where the flock grazed during the summer. It is classified as a fine wool and has next-to-skin softness, a bouncy hand, and a matte appearance. It is durable thanks to the medium staple at 3-5” and the springy crimp makes for a light and elastic fabric.
